Why some cars or SUVs have a very long antenna on them?

Have you noticed one of those really long external antenna’s on automobiles such as cars or SUV’s? I am referring to those additional strange looking antenna’s that don’t come fitted standard from the factory. What are they? and What is the purpose they serve? Are they Ham Radio antenna’s? Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

Mine are for a CB and a VHF marine radio. Some people have scanners, two way radios, ham radios, or other communication devices.
